Ludwig II Monument – I’m on board!
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR
We, the people of Munich from all walks of life, have founded a non-profit association to enhance the Cornelius Bridge, which serves as the gateway from the River Isar to the Gärtnerplatz district, by adding a new attraction for Munich: Through our association, we aim to revive the Ludwig II Monument in a contemporary way, enhance the Cornelius Bridge, and provide residents and tourists with a beautiful, romantic vantage point.
LUDWIG II AND HIS RESIDENCE CITY OF MUNICH
Ludwig II left a lasting legacy in Munich that extends far beyond the image of a romantic “Fairy Tale King.” He established the Technical University and supported initiatives like steam power, electrical engineering, and aviation, all of which advanced progress. Thanks to his efforts, Munich had electric street lighting as early as the 1880s.
As a patron of the arts, he brought Richard Wagner to the National Theatre. Ludwig II was a committed pacifist. He suffered greatly from the wars imposed on him and increasingly retreated to the seclusion of the Alps, where his lifestyle and passion for building earned him the reputation of a dreamy, otherworldly king.
